About Washington DC

Washington, DC, has lately been called a "recession-proof" area, due to low unemployment and homes that barely depreciated when the housing bubble burst in 2006. Any home purchased in the DC-area is a smart investment.

Washington, DC is also a great place to buy a home for many other reasons, too. It's the Nation's Capital, and obviously the best commute for anyone that works in the city. Transportation is easy with so many major highways leading to the district, as well as a robust public transportation system repeatedly ranked the best in the country. Union Station, in the heart of DC, boards trains to nearly every destination in the United States. In 2007, DC was named the most walkable city in the US in a study by the Brookings Institute.

DC is home to some of the best museums in the nation, like the National Air & Space museum, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, National Museum of American History, the National Zoo, and famous memorials. Huge musical acts and art exhibitions stop by DC on their tours--too many annually to count!

Called “one of the most exciting restaurant cities on the East Coast” by Travel + Leisure, DC’s culinary distinctions include James Beard award-winning chefs, AAA Five Diamond ratings and restaurants included on Esquire’s list of the “Best New Restaurants in America.”

Universities in the district include Georgetown University, Howard University, American University, The Catholic University of America, and others. Another advantage of having residency in DC is the ability to apply in-state to any public university in the nation.

The Georgetown Historic District, located at the banks of the Potomac River, is home to some of the finest shops, restaurants, and homes in the area. Georgetown is also a short drive from Embassy Row, the area on Massachusetts Avenue in which many embassies and diplomats are located. Many famous people call Georgetown home, including Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, billionaire Michael Saylor, Washington Post's Ben Bradlee, and at one point, a young John and Jacqueline Kennedy.
