About McLean / Great Falls
McLean is an unincorporated community in northeast Fairfax County. This area is well known for its upscale homes, dining and shopping, including nearby Tysons Galleria and Tysons Corner Center--two of the largest malls on the East Coast!
Many jobs are located within McLean, making it a very populous area and a great place to live and work. In fact, Mclean is home to four Fortune 500 companies: Capital One, Freddie Mac, SAIC and Gannett. A number of other large companies and corporations also call McLean home. Among the notable people residing in McLean, are a number of current and former politicians including Dick Cheney, AOL's Steve Case, and Ted Leonsis, owner of the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards!
Area schools include six elementary schools (Churchill Road, Chesterbrook, Kent Gardens, Spring Hill, Haycock, Franklin Shermin), two middle schools (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, James Fenimore Cooper) and two high schools (Langley, McLean). There are a number of private schools in the area, like the Potomac School, St. John's, Madeira, and the Langley School.
McLean is best known for having large, detached, single-family homes surrounded by lush, mature trees. Many of them were built in the early-to-mid 1900's, with newer condominiums found in Tyson's Corner, and mansions with larger, wooded parcels of land found in the Langley region, many boasting priceless views of the Potomac River.
Favorite eateries vary by area. In Tyson's Corner, you'll find fine steakhouses like the Palm and Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar. You'll find cozier restaurants in downtown McLcean, like J. Gilbert's, Cafe Miyagi, McLean Family Restaurant, Madison Deli, Tachibana, Moby Dick House of Kabob, and a new (third) Lost Dog Cafe.
McLean is conveniently located, with several major roads running through it, including The Capital Beltway, I-66, George Washington Memorial Parkway and Georgetown Pike. What really makes it a great convenience is Chain Bridge, which drops commuters off in North West Washington, DC. McLean is the perfect place for anyone who likes the upscale urban lifestyle as well as the convenience of being only a few miles from the nation's capital.
